Since we are going to be teachers our aim is to make people aware of the importance of being responsible for their own teaching-learning process. Above all, learners must be involved in the development of Education. In this way, today’s topic is self-learning. So that, I would like to offer you answers to some basic questions to help you get more of understanding of self-learning.
WHAT IS SELF-LEARNING?
Self-learning is a process through which a person is able to take in information in order to process and retain it without the need for another individual (teacher, guider, instructor) to be teaching it in order for the understanding to occur, it means Self-learning requires the ability for a learner to work independently.
Likewise, learners are supposed to be motivated since they choose to learn through Self-learning. They are self-motivated by the sense of a job well done. Learners are committed themselves to learn without a teacher who teaches them defined topics related to what they are studying.
WHERE DO PEOPLE CAN DO SELF-LEARNING?
Self-learning can be done anywhere at any time. Learners can take advantage from internet since it is a useful tool where they can search for information, programs, courses that are related to their interests and needs. For instance, virtual learning communities are a good way of becoming you a self-learner.
WHO CAN BE A SELF-LEARNER?
Anyone can be a self-taught using just about any curriculum available. Both teachers and students can find what curriculum works better for them. However, it must take into account that it is much more difficult to encourage a student become a self-learner if he-she has used to learn by others guidance; more difficult, but not impossible to achieve.
WHEN DO PEOPLE CAN BECOME A SELF-LEARNER?
You must start step by step. You have to gain trust in order to be comfortable with what you are doing. So that, it is necessary you be aware of being responsible for your own learning process. In this way, you reach the point when you rarely need someone else in order to learn a topic in which you are interested in.
WHY SELF-LEARNING?
Because you are involved in your own learning process, it means you are able to choose what learn, how, when and where. Since you are motivated to learn something, you are aware of your own interests and needs. So that, you are responsible for searching for information, tools, or whatever you need in order to learn.
